Facebook does not want you talking about it

There are things that "Big Daddy" Facebook does not want you talking about; not at least right in their backyard. Whilst up to my usual sharing-on-facebook, I ran into something slightly peculiar and thought it's worth a couple of screenshots and this blog post.

Some of you folks may be aware of Facebook's acquisition of a Malaysian company, Octazen and the controversy that was triggered therein. I was trying to share this on Facebook and I kinda hit a brick wall..

Hmm.. maybe I'd try a different link:

Nope still not good... wait a sec, perhaps it's nothing to do the link...

Alright... we may be on to something here...

Bingo! the keyword is... "Octazen"; nicely blocked out by Facebook with a pretty unconvincing message. This is the first time I have actually come across this while posting a message to my wall. Try posting it yourself.

Here's a quick paragraph from Techcrunch: http://techcrunch.com/2010/02/19/octazen-what-the-heck-did-facebook-just-buy-exactly-and-why/

Facebook has acquired its third company, Malaysian startup Octazen Solutions. Facebook says this is largely a talent acquisition, according to GigaOm. Octazen has a slightly different story on their home page, saying Facebook acquired “most of the company’s assets and to employ those assets in a different direction.”

And what about Octazen? Check out their website: http://octazen.com/

The Octazen team wanted to let you, our valued customers, know that the company recently received an offer to acquire most of the company's assets and to employ those assets in a different direction. After carefully evaluating this offer, our team believes this is a wonderful opportunity of which we must take advantage.

As a result, effective immediately, Octazen will no longer accept new service contracts or renew existing service contracts, and will enter a transition period to wind down operations. During this transition period, Octazen will continue to honor existing service contracts and will remain your point-of-contact. We wanted to inform you as soon as possible to ensure you have adequate time to select another service provider without disruption to your business. We will do our best to work with you to ensure a smooth transition.

We will share additional details regarding our transition plan as they become available. In the meantime, we want to thank all of you for your business!

Best wishes,

The Octazen team
